    My senior design project, a one year endeavor, looked at improving the process of placing an IV dressing. We focused on the peripheral use. The product my team developed and validated improves upon the industry standard Tegaderm (3M) by allowing it to attach to the IV line prior to placing it. This in turn causes the IV line to act as a "third hand" so the clinician will never need an extra set of hands to place the IV right the first time, every time. Thus, avoiding reinsertion and risk of CRBSI.I was the President of Clemson Bionics, an undergraduate team working to develop a low-cost, 3D prosthetic devices. My primary responsibility as a part of this engineering team is the CAD design, which is done primarily in Solidworks. Initially, we designed various models of a hand and fingers that targeted the pediatric market. More recently, we acknowledged that a major issue in prosthetic use is confidence in the deivce, which can lead to lack of participation in social activities and lack of use of it in general. Our team is creating a system of embedded sensors to tell the user that the socket is fit correctly, in hopes of increasing confidence in use. Furthermore, I locate outreach experiences and conferences for group members to attend and present at. Previously I worked in the Cell Mechanics and Mechanobiology lab, under direction of Dr. Jiro Nagatomi, with Graduate Student Martin Alejos. Our work focused on an adhesive meant to be applied on wet surfaces after surgeries that cures quickly. My primary responsibility was syntheszing the hydrogel and adhesive and then testing it with a lap-shear test.Lastly, I worked on the functionalization of polymers with PGG for use in electrospun vascular grafts. My responsibilities focused on the development of standard curves in order to determine the relationship between calcification of the graft and concentration of PGG.
