I am a Senior Faculty at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, affiliated to the discipline Design for Retail Experience, at the Bengaluru campus. Earlier to this, I have been the Discipline Lead, in the discipline of Exhibition design at the NID, Ahmedabad campus from April 2016 to February 2022. My areas of academic interest are Spatial Experience and Environment Design, Product Design, Systems design, Retail design, Materials and Geometry, apart from pedagogic processes, structure and methodology.My expertise include identifying Design opportunities in certain sectors, developing strategy and processes of value creation in these areas using design and evolving a design, production and execution system for these projects. In this context, I have also expertise in developing products by understanding functional and socio-cultural aspects and integrating industrial processes with hand crafting techniques.At NID, I also hold the position of Head of Industry Relations and Alumni Affairs, under which I engage in dialogues with the industry and NID alumni, for creating frameworks and modes of engagement to build long term relationships between academia at NID and the Industry.I have over twenty five years of professional experience in the domain of Spatial Environment and Experience design, Branding and Communication design and Product design – through projects in the domains of Pavilions, Museum, Exhibition, Interior (Retail, Office and Hospitality), Signage systems, Environmental Branding and Event Design sector and developing Products and Systems for these sectors. I have been continuing my professional practices parallel to my journey in the academic world.My journey in the academic world began from 2010 since when I have taught as a Visiting faculty at various institutes - NID - Ahmedabad, IICD, Jaipur, Pearl Academy, Noida, FDDI, Noida and IILM School of Design – Gurgaon, at both undergraduate and post graduate levels, and in various departments - Product Design, Exhibition Design, Interior Design, Accessory Design and for Foundation programs, before becoming a full time faculty at NID. I have also been working in the Indian Craft sector – having done product development projects, as a consultant; as well as a research associate and field researcher on the publication - The Handbook of Handicrafts – an encyclopedia on Indian handicrafts.
