Baghdad, Iraq

During my time in Baghdad, the Swedish embassy had seven seconded diplomats, 13 local employees, and a large security force. Sweden and Iraq had broad relations, to which the large Iraqi diaspora in Sweden contributed. Sweden had a bilateral aid program with Iraq and a Sida envoy at the embassy, ​​and Swedish military and police officers participated in international operations in Iraq.

The embassy had five seconded diplomats and 13 local employees. Sweden and Cuba traditionally have a sensitive bilateral relationship with diverging positions regarding human rights. During my time in Havana, Sida ran a bilateral aid program.

The unit had approx. 15 desk officers and served as focal point for the ten Swedish embassies in the region. The unit followed and developed political and commercial relations with the countries of North and Latin America and the Caribbean; Sida also had aid programs for Bolivia, Colombia, and Central America. I also regularly represented Sweden in the EU's working group for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in preparations for high-level meetings between the EU and the Americas.

The embassy had nine diplomats and 15 local employees. I led the embassy's reporting on the political and economic developments in Italy, as well as the Swedish presidency of the EU in 2009, and stood in for the ambassador in many promotional events. Sweden and Italy have a broad and close relationship with regular high-level visits - during my time in Rome e.g. the Prime Minister's participation in the G8 summit and state visit by TM the King and Queen.

I chaired the EU working group for Latin America during the first Swedish presidency in 2001, and was subsequently the Swedish delegate in the working group until 2003. From September 2001 I was the Swedish delegate in the working group Relex, which prepares legal instruments within the EU's common foreign and security policy, such as sanctions and crisis management operations.

The embassy had four seconded diplomats and 12 local employees. I was responsible for consular issues as well as for political and economic reporting on Colombia and Ecuador. During the 1990s, the situation in Colombia was characterized by internal armed conflict and narco-terrorism.

Desk officer responsible for Swedish research assistance. I also wrote a report on the consequences of a possible Swedish accession to the EU for Swedish development cooperation. During this time I also underwent the Foreign Ministry's training program for fresh diplomats.

Activities and Societies: I initiated the PhD program with a focus on Development Economics, which I discontinued when I was accepted.

I majored in Development Economics writing my Master's essay evaluating a Swedish aid project in Tanzania. The program also had a focus.
