A plant ecologist by training, I am passionate about trees, plants and ecosystems, and have a particular interest in showcasing the role that plants play in our lives, e.g. food, clothes and medicine. I am fascinated about the diversity of traditional European landscapes, and their natural, cultural and historical values that have often developed over centuries. As the Founder and Director of Paisaia European Landscape Foundation, a registered charity and non-profit organisation operating across Europe, I follow a new approach for maintaining and restoring traditional cultural landscapes in Europe, and keeping them alive for the future. I am a member of Board of Trustees of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust that runs the Jersey Zoo. It aims for more diverse, beautiful and resilient natural landscapes in which species can thrive and people can enjoy a deeper connection with nature. I continue my academic research with partners across the world in my function as Honorary Research Associate at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, one of the world’s most famous and diverse botanic gardens, where for many years I led a global plant conservation network and the seed biology and conservation research agenda, bridging scientific research, horticulture, public outreach and science-based conservation. My current research focuses on vegetation patterns on a landscape scale and their changes over time, and on seed ecological and physiological questions (in particular dormancy, longevity and the impact on stress on germination).Using my extensive experience in seed banking of wild plant species, I provide advice in seed banking aspects to botanical gardens, research institutions and seed banks across the world.
