The postdoc position at the division of automatic control was partially a continuation of the PhD research and partially a project in collaboration with ABB Corporate Research and ABB Marine in Finland. The continued research mainly focused on unknown inputs in a dynamic network setting and cancellation of nonlinearities in mechanical systems by using indirect input measurements. The project with ABB was related to state estimation for ships.

The PhD student position at the division of automatic control consisted of three parts, research, course work and teaching. The research topic was modeling and estimation of ship dynamics which lead to the licentiate's thesis "Graybox Modelling of Ships Using Indirect Input Measurements". The basic idea in the licentiate's thesis, using indirect input measurements to deal with unknown inputs, was generalized in the final part of the PhD studies and it lead to the PhD thesis "Indirect System Identification for Unknown Input Problems: With Applications to Ships". The course work consisted of 240 ECTS with the main goal of broadening the knowledge in the automatic control area outside the research topic. The teaching duties mainly consisted of leading exercise sessions in both basic and advanced level courses but also supervision of theses and project courses.

The research work included three projects: "mine of the future", "industrial demand response", and "multi-objective optimization". The mining project included modeling, control and optimization of mining operation. It focused on developing a framework for material- and property tracking. The project in smart grids outlined the possibility for load shifting in industrial environment to meet demands in the electric grid. The multi-objective optimization project contained further development of the tool and broadened the knowledge of the applications described in the master thesis.

Master thesis in interactive multiobjective optimization with applications to hot rolling mills. A generic interactive multiobjective optimization framework for nonlinear large scale optimization problems was developed. The framework consists of two parts. One part to sample the Pareto frontier and one part to continuously navigate on the discrete Pareto set in real-time.

A summer internship to develop advanced control functions in ABBs process control system 800xA. The work was to re-design and program function blocks for a model predictive controller. The work also consisted of designing and implementing the related graphics for the operator.
