Indeed, executives might experience difficulty identifying and assessing parameters from their surroundings. Therefore, various analyses were developed by academics and consulting firms in order to help the practitioners engage with the process of strategy formulation. The Telescopic Observations Framework (TOF) constitutes one of these approaches. This research empirically tests the TOF’s capacity to perform a situational analysis based on the managerial perspective from the OEM pharmaceutical and medical technology (medtech) industry. Therefore, this case study identifies various challenges experienced by managers as well as different adaptations to implement the TOF in order to better address the industry’s particularities. These modifications were then implemented on the framework in order to offer a convenient step-by-step approach for situational analysis. Finally, this research highlights specific key parameters for customer acquisitions and retention based on specific insights from the industry identified in this study. Consequently, this paper will present an improvement proposal of the original TOF to perform situational analysis in the OEM pharmaceutical and medtech industry. -
