I worked on a preliminary usability design for Dorrestein Lab and their attempt to liberate and democratize the collected mass spectrometry data. - Development and design of a data base for molecular data- Programming (PHP, HTML, CSS / JS, CodeIgniter)- Cultural understanding and interdisciplinary collaboration with some of the finest brains in an extremely high-tech scientific field- Developing and conducting various design workshops- Aided with the development of new graphical repre- sentations of scientific data (molecular networking as a Google map)Especially I enjoyed applying the user-centered design principles. Schön, Löwgren, and Stolterman in action.The internship additionally gave me an appreciation for working in a different scientific setting with a completely different vocabulary and methods. Furthermore I had the opportunity to live in SoCal, and to enjoy socializing with some of the worlds best researchers within their scientific field. A great opportunity to stay in physical shape, help various training battalions while I was receiving training for the SFC rank. This training included additional courses in tactics and leadership. Combining these skills with the theoretical studies from informational science was a great experience. A rich opportunity to reflect on the practices within the military and the 'real' world.
