My primary responsibility was to assess lower-income families for social assistance (including but not limited to financial assistance), link them up with other state agencies (e.g. housing, health), and journey with families towards self-reliance. In my brief stint, I was tasked with reviewing conditionalities (e.g. job search requirements) attached to welfare payouts and their efficacy across different countries. This piqued my interest to start my career at the ministry subsequently, specifically to understand how our social policy is translated and understood at the street level.
