As Head of the Political Economic Secretariat (i.e. Strategy) I was responsible for meetings of the board as well as budget, policy, strategy, analysis, communication, international collaboration, project portfolio reporting etc. I had 8 direct reports and additional project based reports from other parts of our own organisation as well as the Ministry of Health. The board was chaired by the former State Secretary for Health & the Interior and the board members were top executives from the the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Regions and Municipalities.I was also a member (observer status) of the National Steering Committee for Healthcare Documentation, which oversaw the national DRG-system, healthcare quality and local registration practices. The Committee members where top executives from each of Denmark's five regions, the Ministry of Health and the National Health Authority (chair).Moreover, I represented the entire healthcare sector in the wider collaboration with other government departments on digitisation of the public sector (e-government). This is – as Healthcare IT – an area where Denmark is globally leading.Connected Digital Health in Denmark was a government-funded organisation that led the digitisation of the entire Danish healthcare service across three levels of government: central, regional and municipal (5.6M citizens; >100.000 FTE; IT budgets of DKK2.5B/year). The organisation also managed large projects spanning hospitals' electronic health records, municipalities' electronic care records, national health registries & databases, classifications & terminologies, telemedicin & home monitoring etc.The Managing Director of Connected Digital Health – former CEO of Danish Regions (until 2006) – was at the same time the Deputy Director General of the Danish Health Authority, who I also worked with and at times was co-located with.

I was promoted to Senior Manager (Chefrådgiver) at Danish Regions and posted to a new “National Electronic Medical Records Organisation”, later renamed “Connected Digital Health in Denmark” (Sammenhængende Digital Sundhed I Danmark), which was set up as a collaboration between the Central government, Danish Regions and Local Government Denmark (KL).I had developed the proposal to establish the organisation and was recruited as the first employee to set it up. In the role, I initially managed a national review of healthcare IT. Then I had a key role in the development and execution of a new national strategy for digitisation of the Danish healthcare service. I was Secretary to the Board and worked closely with the Board Chairman and CEO as well as The Danish Health Authority, Regions and other stakeholders.In four years, Connected Digital Health grew to have 40 FTE and a budget of DDK 125 mill. Denmark was recognised as a global leader in e-health in numerous benchmark studies. See the attachments to the two positions above.
