Research into nonflammable electrolytes for Sodium-ion batteries. Also, investigations into uses of graphene in composite cathodes for Sodium-ion batteries.

Front contact group. Development of front contact metal grids for CIGS PV cells and modules. Specifically we used photolithography to make 7-20 µm wide aluminium lines on glass substrates. Optimisation of grid designs that yielded world record efficiency thin film PV devices. Scaling from 1 cm2 sized devices to fullsize PV modules for production implementation. We worked in a team of four and I was in charge of practical execution and also had process responsibility for all equipment, as opposed to equipment responsibility which was held by colleagues. I spent lots of time in the lab processing and examining samples. I also took part in the preparation of a few patents, one of which was specifically interesting since we developed a new photolithography method which consumed far less photoresist (considerably thinner than the metal deposited) and yielded almost perfect square line cross sections.Relevant selection of specific characterization skills aquired from this job:Light optical microscopy: experienced userMechanical profilometry: moderately experiencedFIB-SEM with EDS: moderately experienced with SE-detector. Planning, execution and evaluation of PID-tests on CIGS PV modules in heat and damp heat conditions, including building experimental electrical setups with high voltage wiring (up to 1500V). Evaluation of PID-protection barrier layers (inpenetrable by alkali ions). Product development of partly transparent modules by selective sand blasting.
