I love to solve problems. I love to find efficiencies. I'm good at doing both.As a temporary contractor at Delhaize America, I stood out to management because I could automate tedious tasks, making the jobs of everyone around me easier. After I was hired to a permanent position, I was soon recruited to a major data migration project because of the reputation I'd built as a contractor. The most exciting part of this role for me was coding a system to transfer data between two mainframes by automating terminal emulators (with buy-in from IT, because they didn't have the resources to complete the job in the necessary timeframe).Following that, I moved into a technical role in Pricing. I inherited business tools in Excel and Access and made them better, cleaning up the code, finding time savings, and improving the user experience.I played an integral role in user acceptance testing for a new supply chain forecasting solution. Again, my focus was on making the testing process more manageable through automation. At this point, the IT department we were working with noticed my prowess with SQL and automation, and offered me a position as a developer. My favorite part of this role was being on call. I didn't love getting woken up in the middle of the night, but I thrived on the pressure and thrill of fixing the batch jobs so stores would have their prices in the morning.Around this time, I had a born-again experience and decided to attend Bible school to explore my new faith. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Religious Education. The summer before my fourth year at school, I had a job on a paving crew. My first day was over 14 hours long. I was not physically prepared for the job, and none of the crew thought I would show up for work the next day. However, I persisted, got stronger, and learned about paving. Before long, I was a valuable member of the crew and was promoted to paver operator. Immediately out of school, I was offered a position teaching High School Math and Science in New Brunswick, Canada. I have loved teaching. I've made a positive difference in the lives of teens, and I've also been able to do a few programming projects to improve my workflow.I am now back in the United States. I'm looking for a technical position where I can solve problems and find efficiencies, just like I've done all my career.
