Annually taught classes in Ecological Research Design, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Conservation Biology, Ornithology; sporadically taught classes in Advanced Statistics, Marine Ornithology, Wildlife Research Techniques, Natural Resource Inventory, Avian Nesting Ecology, and Field Study Trips to Costa Rica, Arizona, Montana, and Ecuador. Advised Master’s students working on a wide variety of thesis topics. Maintained ongoing, student-integrated research program focused on (a) conservation of birds occurring in a highly fragmented, threatened natural community located in coastal southern California, (b) factors influencing population dynamics of migrant songbirds in the northeastern U.S., (c) effects of human disturbance on beach-nesting and migrant shorebirds, and (d) factors influencing population fluctuations of the endemic Santa Cruz Island scrub-jay. Supervised adjunct faculty teaching GIS, Natural Resource Inventory (Wildlife), Herpetology, and Entomology. Participated in various departmental and institutional committees.1998-2009. Director, Conservation Biology Program. Administrative responsibilities for a 50-cr Master’s program with an average annual enrollment of 24 students; this was one of six programs in an interdisciplinary department that enrolls about 85 students per year.

Provided overall management direction, supervision and technical expertise for BRI’s science programs (Tropical Ecology, Raptors, Waterfowl, Migratory Songbirds, Coastal Birds, Wetland Birds, Marine Birds, Mammals, Wildlife & Renewable Energy, Wildlife Habitat Planning, and Wildlife Health Assessment).Position terminated due to lack of funding.

Conducted research in ornithology and conservation biology, specializing in use of science-driven land-use planning to resolve conflicts between conservation and economic concerns. Directed daily operation of long-term bird-banding station, and the semester-long, college-accredited Field Biology Training Program.
