Vetiver TT specializes in ecological engineering solutions, making use of vetiver grass as a bio-engineering tool due to its deep roots and other unique properties. Applied correctly, the Vetiver System (VS) can increase shear strength of slopes by up to 40% within 2 years of growth, prevent soil loss through erosion, replenish ground water levels by slowing down run-off - which also reduces flooding downstream; and remediate contaminated land and water through phytoremediation. The leaves and roots of vetiver grass can also be used to make handicrafts, essential oils, and perfumes.Vetiver TT EES Ltd serves clients across all sectors, including residential, commercial and public works, as well as those working in agriculture. We also collaborate with NGOs and developmental agencies to implement community education and empowerment projects, and knowledge distribution initiatives; especially as they relates to building climate resilience in the face of more extreme weather events.Vetiver TT EES Ltd has also been recognized with the 2018 Social Investment Project of the year award for SMEs for the Vetiver Education and Empowerment Project (VEEP) model implemented in T&T’s largest hillside farming community, and placed 3rd in the ReSource Award from Swiss Re in 2017.

Board Members work together with the Inter-American Development Bank in Trinidad and Tobago to roll-out its Unfollow Campaign and 2016-2020 Country Strategy. We identify ideas, initiatives and activities that may fit under the umbrella of the campaign and the work of the IDB. The IDB team will in turn work with the Board to identify financing to implement them. These ideas, initiatives and activities may come from any of the following: i) ideas from members of the Board; ii) dialogue from the Pillar events; iii) ideas coming out of the IDB-sponsored Startup Weekend; iv) ideas proposed by citizens in the Unfollow Box; or v) any other forum not listed.

Jonathan worked with SNC-Lavalin since his graduation in June 2010 until May 2013, in the department of Sustainable Mining Developement. He worked as both a site and office engineer, on the following projects: - Xstrata Nickel, Raglan, Northern QC- Goro Nickel, New Caledonia- Isua, Greenland- Mina de Cobre, Panama. Though initially focused on geotechnical engineering, Jonathan gained significant experience in water management during construction, erosion and sediment control, revegetation, land rehabilitation, flora & fauna rescue and waste water treatment.During his time with SNC-Lavalin his tasks included but were not limited to:- Geotechnical soil and rock logging, samples preparation- Geotechnical studies and report preparation- Borehole and test pit logs preparation- Slope and seepage analyses with Geostudio SLOPE/W and SEEP/W- Tailings storage facilities conceptual design; planning of mining, dam construction and tailings deposition timelines- Major quantities calculations and bills of quantities/costs preparation - Cover design for mine closure plans- Drainage requirement calculations and spillway/culvert design- Design Figures preparation working with AutoCAD specialist(s)- Overseeing of environmental aspects of waste dump and platform earthworks construction - Identification of water management risks, and improvements to avoid saturation and land slippage- Supervision of rock-filter underdrain construction- Identification of methods to protect against erosion and sedimentation in high rainfall locations- Planning and supervision of local seed collection and revegetation programs- Design, planning and supervision of slope stabilization projects using the Vetiver System (VS)- Supervision of Flora & Fauna rescue activities to release forested areas before tree cutting- Assistance in analysis, installation, operation, maintainance, testing and legal permitting processes (in Panama) for waste water treatment systems.

Job was in summer 2007. The work scope was ocean floor dredging to deepen the passageway for ships entering port. I worked as assistant superintendent, managing and monitoring operations on the barge at sea. During more routine operations I joined the workers in the hands on manual labour.
