I started iFit as a full stack developer, and transitioned to DevOps. I get to do node full-time now, and my prior experience in doing different, but similar, work translated well to this environment. Over time, I've been a team lead and now a staff engineer. I can:* Put buttons on webpages! (React, Angular)* Build REST APIs (serverless, API Gateway)* Put stuff in databases and get stuff out of them (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RDS, Aurora) and troubleshoot performance* Put apps in containers and run them in different places (Docker, ECS, Beanstalk)* Conjure infrastructure from lines of code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform) and help dev teams manage their own (Terraform Cloud, serverless framework)* Keep those teams within the guardrails (IAM, Sentinel)* Put web pages and other files in places and make them load fast (S3, CloudFront, Route53)* Integrate and even deploy things continuously (GitHub Actions, Travis CI, CodeDeploy)* Make all these other things talk to each other and respond to each other in creative ways (SNS, SQS)* Mrite spells and incantations to make things in your house move (Alexa, IoT)* Keep an eye on things as efficiently as possible with dashboards, logs, and alerts (Datadog, OpsGenie, CloudWatch)* Still figuring out i I am an AI/ML driver or mechanic (SageMaker, LangChain, soon to get into Bedrock)

In 2017, it was probably a little late to still be in LAMP-land and with less cloud experience. I wanted an opportunity to learn node and some other environments.As the company built its relationship with AWS, I was able to do a lot of playground development as well as taking the basic Technical Professional exam while working on the Associate Developer exam that I didn't get to complete during my time. I worked on a CI/CD pipeline for an in-house application that used EC2, RDS, and CodePipeline. I also did some in-house development in PHP and Angular.My main client project was maintaining CAS Trade Promotion Management on a project maintaining interfaces between SAP/BW <-> CAS and CAS -> High Radius. Tech used includes SQL Server (SSIS), VB.NET. This wasn't my wheelhouse, but I was able to meet the client's needs. Much of the customization was in SQL stored procedures, so I was able to use and develop those skills a bit deeper.

With some acquaintances from my last job, this started as a side project that became a full time job. My team was at times just me scaling up to at times 4-5 developers. I oversaw a greenfield project, an application for ag aviation chemical application management. The application was built with what I knew: LAMP with a jQuery-built front-end, and in 2011, this was probably a good call. Again, I wanted to move infra to AWS, but the cloud transition didn't really take off until after I left. The application let me build skills with different SOAP and REST APIs as well as various GIS (mapping) features.

I finally found myself in a full-time dev role working with a LAMP stack. Even without the formal experience, I quickly worked to lead some transitional changed. I helped implement our first SCM (SVN) and set up a dev server. I helped maintain on-premesis infrastructure (rack mounted servers). I maintained the a master-slave MySQL configuration with a goal of moving to multi-master that never quite got off the ground. I helped manage new projects, like a new website content management system and an "outdoor" social website. I worked through the transitional process of almost-no Javascript to scriptaculo.us to YUI to prototype and eventually jQuery and bootstrap.I wanted to break more into AWS and managed some proofs of concept but never quite started on the cloud transition.

I'd been learning more about HTML, CSS, JS and LAMP in my spare time, but still had not turned that into a full time role, and I hoped this would be an opportunity for that. I joined in a customer service role on a team of 3 hoping I could dip my toes deeper into development. In my role, I provided support, and traveled to county jails and sheriff offices to perform installations. I spent some time helping to debug the legacy VB6 application. When the .NET rewrite came around, I got the opportunity to work with SQL Server Reporting Services and dabble in the VB.NET application. I wrote a small inventory tracking application in C#, TigerTrack, that was really only for my personal use in my support role. I still spent my spare time doing LAMP when I could, and I took on some side projects for a couple clients.

I graduated without a CS degree, but with a minor in MIS and a strong desire to do web development. I hoped this would be an opportunity to get my feet wet and learn the LAMP stack. WebPress software was designed in house on the LAMP stack. My job was custom service, so I spent my time providing support for existing customers, populate new sites with content. Since everyone always wanted something custom, I did what I could within the program to customize new pages in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Flash at customers' requests.
