I am the Director of the Policy, Research, Analysis, and Geomatics division within Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). My team conducts policy research (both planned and ad-hoc) in support of policy and program development that deal with a number of labour market issues. The division is also engaged in research management and coordination activities including leading several research committees and SEB’s Data Strategy, coordinating data access, governance and data linkage issues for the Skills and Employment Branch. The division also provides mapping services to the entire department, with key support to the Employment Insurance program and the Service Canada service delivery network.

I led a team of economists looking at global issues related to employment and economic development. I also managed the OECD Local Development Forum, an international network of local development practitioners, entrepreneurs and social innovators with thousands of members across the world. Overall, I published more 40 reports across 30 countries. I regularly gave key note speeches on emerging labour market issues, while also facilitating dialogues/workshops among stakeholders across OECD member countries. I also did several media interviews to promote work of the OECD.

- Led, conducted and supported qualitative and quantitative policy research and analysis related to education issues and trends in Ontario and other jurisdictions. - Prepared research/analysis papers, discussion papers, policy presentation materials, briefing documents, correspondence, and Cabinet/Management Board submissions on a broad range of topics. - Provided briefing presentations and expert advice on policy analysis and research project results, current education trends related to Full-Day Kindergarten and impact analyses, and policy development recommendations to ministry officials and senior management. - Developed an excel tool to assist school boards in calculating their fees for the extended day component of the Full-Day Kindergarten Program.

- Led the development of Ministry and inter-Ministry labour market and training policy development projects; assisted in the development of policy recommendations consistent with the government policy agenda and the Ministry’s strategic direction on labour market issues.- Supported Senior Management by developing issue notes, house notes and briefing notes surrounding various labour market and training issues, as well as developing communications messaging to inform external stakeholders of government progress. - Researched and analyzed various policy and intergovernmental issues to assist government/Ministry direction as required.- Conducted environmental scans to identify key issues; researched and analyzed labour market policy approaches/trends in other jurisdictions; and analyzed strengths/weaknesses of existing policies.- Coordinated consultation/approval processes with senior management of the division, Ministry and other Ministries, and received input to proposed policy options. - Supported implementation of the Canada-Ontario Labour Market Development Agreement.

- Attended briefings by the European Commission, Council, Parliament, and think tanks. Drafted briefing reports including an analysis of the implications for Canada which were circulated to senior officials across the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as other Canadian government departments and embassies as necessary.- Researched the EU public procurement practices and policies to support the government procurement chapter of the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement- Conducted background research and drafted reports on issues related to the Canada-EU relationship on foreign security, trade, agricultural, environmental, immigration, and border policy issues
