JONATHAN BERMAN is CEO of the Shell Foundation. SF is an independent UK-registered charity established in 2000 that creates and scales business solutions to accelerate access to affordable, renewable energy across Africa and Asia, in support of an inclusive energy transition. We provide capital and counsel to enterprises and ecosystems capable of delivering positive change at scale via disruptive technologies or business models without long-term reliance on charitable support or subsidy. To date the foundation’s work has improved the livelihoods of more than 229m people.Jonathan serves on the board of directors of Factor(E), which invests in and builds de-carbonized solutions for emerging and frontier market energy, agribusiness and mobility; Asoko Insight, which delivers superior data and analysis on emerging market corporations to customers worldwide; and AIP Migo Money, which invests in emerging market payment solutions. .Jonathan's the author of the book Success in Africa (with a foreword by Robert Rubin), which President Bill Clinton calls "timely and important," Coke CEO Neville Isdell describes as "a great book" and Mark Mobius describes as "dynamite." His views appear in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Bloomberg and Harvard Business Review(HBR). He's authored or co-authored multiple articles in HBR on emerging markets and global leadership. Jonathan previously served as partner and director of the global corporate practice at Dalberg, a mission-driven advisory firm focused on frontier markets with twenty-one offices worldwide. He has advised numerous global Fortune 500 companies on entry and operations in Asia and Africa. His clients included global leaders in oil, gas, mining, agribusiness, education, healthcare, IT and consumer goods, as well as governments and investors active in these sectors. Jonathan holds a BA in East Asian Studies from Yale and an MA in Political Economy from UC Berkeley. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
