Assist QNF staff with characterization of microfabrication tools and processes. Processes include: optical lithography (positive resist), chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor deposition

• Set up large-scale darkbox for testing of optical properties of several nanoparticle-loaded scintillator solutions with varying wavelength shifters for potential use in Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO+) experiments. • Collected light output data using completely functioning oscilloscope-based DAQ system and some of the world’s most advanced large-area high quantum efficiency photomultiplier tubes. • Wrote and executed analysis scripts for light yield and timing profiles for alpha and beta radiation responses. • Results were presented at SNO+ collaboration meeting in Canada, the 16th Lomonosov Conference on Particle Physics in Russia, and are being prepared for publication in a scientific journal.

• Developed programming scripts to compliment existing computational tools to model the electron transfer between several organic polymers and carbon fullerenes to better understand the fundamental nanoscale processes for future applications in polymer solar cell devices.

• Created paradigmatic designs of electric double layer supercapacitors comprised of nanoporous carbon materials such as nanotubes and other more complicated networks, and electrolytes. • Used government supercomputers to perform ultrascale simulations of the charging/discharging processes of the supercapacitor designs to determine which specific characteristics maximize energy storage capacity and better understand the fundamental nanoscale interactions.
