Can you imagine not being able to read or write? Now imagine you also can't speak.You start school with a label of Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. Because of the presumptions made about you and the label you've been yoked with you aren't taught to read or write. If this was just my story it would be sad, but this is the continuing story of many people in special schools. The system fails them.After I was removed from special school to be taught to read and write I knew I had a responsibility to make a difference, so I set up a charity, Teach Us Too, calling for all children to be taught to read and write regardless of their educational label.With my charity I present to university students, teachers and professionals in the field of education on the importance of literacy for all. As a member of FLARE, the Department for Education’s national young SEND advisory group, I attend regular meetings with people of national significance in education policy writing.Writing is my passion, and in 2018 my memoir, 'Eye Can Write', was published. Since then I have written speeches, articles and contributions in three publications.As a committed Christian, Jesus is the reason I have life in all its fullness.
