Ever since I started working at 14 years old, my goal has been to go up and beyond what is expected. As a teenager working blue-collar jobs, that goal involved continually pushing to work at a faster, more efficient pace while still performing quality work. My academic career began at a local community college and later continued at the Masters University. Those experiences taught me three key lessons: first, the ability to communicate, relate, and collaborate with peers is equally as important as being a hard-working individual. Second, working hard is a choice, not a feeling (especially during late night term papers). Finally, a good attitude is more than just a good night's sleep; it's a conviction.In the summer of 2019, I interned at Princess Cruises. My intern project at Princess Cruises was my first exposure to the world of data: how data is stored ADP Enterprise HR, reporting through SSRS, documenting tables in Collibra, etc.I moved my family to Florida and took a position at a local contracting company, Entrusted. My position eventually morphed into an analyst-type role. This role opened my eyes to both the power and the danger of data integrity. I had a front-row seat to see the effects of bad data on managerial decisions. Also, this experience shaped my perspective on data-backed decisions; anyone can claim a data-backed conclusion; however, without an understanding of where data is coming from and how it's being manipulated, no one can accurately claim a data-driven conclusion.My current company ZimVie has provided a great opportunity to see how data is inputted and manipulated from a front-end perspective. Through this experience, my passion for learning back-end skills has grown substantially. As I've started to grow my SQL querying skills, I'm amazed to see how much of the day-to-day work I do in Oracle and Excel is based on the SQL coding language.I'm currently learning the SSIS process and am excited to continue this journey to understand the world of data.
