The Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI) is a research center at UC Berkeley focusing on AI safety. At CHAI, I worked with Cam Allen and Stuart Russell to develop a reinforcement learning algorithm that avoids negative side effects.

My current research, advised by Doina Precup and Prakash Panangaden, aims to enable AI systems to learn from a wider range of feedback.

During my undergraduate research in Doina Precup's lab, I explored two key areas in Reinforcement Learning:1. Enhancing RL Safety with Lyapunov Stability: For my first project, I conducted an in-depth reading project exploring how Lyapunov stability can be used to make RL algorithms safer. I presented my findings in a talk at the Canadian Undergraduate Conference in Mathematics held in Quebec City.2. Reward Design and Alignment: In my second project, we focused on improving how feedback is given to learning agents. I developed algorithms and theoretical results to determine when a specific “task" could be expressed by a numerical reward function. This lead to a poster presentation at McGill University's Undergraduate Research Symposium.

During my time at AltaML, I prototyped machine learning models that improved the sales and marketing strategies for one of AltaML’s clients. In addition to developing the models, I communicated our findings to clients in weekly presentations and written reports. This included a detailed analysis of data privacy and responsible AI concerns.

As a member of the Cosmic Dawn Group, I wrote python scripts to simulate the effects of observational errors. Using this data, I implemented deep learning models (modified U-Nets) to recover hydrogen maps of the early universe. Together with other group members we analyzed the successes and failures of the model from an astrophysical perspective.

As an undergraduate researcher in Gantumur Tsogtgerel's applied mathematics group, I derived an algorithm to measure quantum entanglement using tensor network optimization.

The McGill Tribune is an independent, entirely student-run newspaper at McGill University, with a publication of 5,000 weekly print copies.As an editorial board member, I managed the Tribune's web server, collaborating with journalists and design teams to produce featured web pages every week.
