Wollaton Park

Wollaton hall and deer park is a council run LNR (local nature reserve) which spans around 500 acres in the heart of Nottingham city, the park is home to around 200 red and fallow deer along with a wide variety of waterfowl and small mammals.Day to day duties on the park can vary drastically, although some routine tasks do remain constant throughout the year. There are several daily and weekly checks that our team are expected to carry out, these may include machinery maintenance checks carried out before the use of any of the vehicles or power tools on site. The park has a grade 1 listed wall encompassing it, one of our responsibilities is to check on its structural integrity for both safety reasons and preventing deer from escaping into the streets. We carry our habitat and population management tasks regularly, and will run volunteer sessions often in conjunction with corporate groups. These volunteer tasks will often be part of a larger project for example the restoration of our historic walled garden, in which a 5 year management plan is currently being implemented with the help of our team, volunteers and the Wollaton historic society.
