Jonathan headed up the Finance Function within the Management Team at Viva Gym South Africa, having been involved at an Executive level from the beginning working closely with the co-Founder, through the official launch of the Africa-first online joining platform and the first Viva Gym, through to the successful sale of the 7 Viva Gyms to Moove Fitness Clubs in 2024. Reporting to the Board throughout, additional responsibilities included assisting with systems and strategy for National Operations, Marketing and IT. He oversaw the deployment of >R150 million in FDI, with the Gym estate growing to 7 Gyms and >100 direct jobs and >300 indirect jobs.Jonathan was responsible for the implementation and taking live of the first iteration of the end to end Gym Management software system, which married an existing server based package to a new member acquisition website and necessary integrations, such as sourcing online payment gateways (including credit card and instant EFT). In 2015, the Global Board decided to use the South African IT partners to develop a proprietary cloud-based system for Spain and South Africa’s rollout.Given the success of the first system, Jonathan lead the project, which went live in 2016 and now included self-service membership management, and BI insights via integration with Qlikview on the entire database. In summary, he managed numerous teams with differing skillsets and outputs, to bring about an Africa first platform.On the compliance side, Jonathan sourced and implemented an ERP (Sage 200) for the accounting system, ensuring that the Board could view Management Accounts, Budgets and Forecasts all in the same format; whilst also delivering 10 full IFRS, clean Audits and ensuring all points raised were addressed.In early 2020, Jonathan requested to go part-time in order to support other SME's in their growth phase, after ensuring Viva Gym survived the pandemic by securing Covid financing, and then facilitating the 2024 sale.

VirtualStaX, being the main expression of TheXchange, is a revolutionary web app that enables talented people to monetize their following, by issuing StaX in themselves to their fans, who can then gain more access to their stars, as well as share in their success!Jonathan joined this wide and deep Team at a critical juncture, a few months before the global launch of VirtualStaX, where his experience in global compliance and adding value to distributed Teams helped to make an impact from the beginning.Given his experience with disruptive web apps, he also worked closely with the Tech Team at TheXchange to further enhance the commercial offering. In addition, Jonathan worked with the Finance and Legal Teams, and gave input to Financial strategy.

Jonathan’s ad-hoc support to ProFloat, mainly with Financial strategy and Executive support, over the past 5 years was formalised into a part time position in the Group, heading up Finance. He has assisted with the due diligence processes for the acquisition of Marblecast, Kwela Tile Designs and SS Enclosures; as well as supporting the creation of Triangle EDC and Novello Movers. This exciting composites, electrical and distribution Group is poised for significant growth in the years to come, and Jonathan’s executive-level involvement was key to setting them on that path. Following this period of rapid expansion, further M&A activity has been paused, releasing Jonathan to support the next growth initiative.
