As a critical care psychiatrist with specialized knowledge in the neuroscience of intensive care unit (ICU) delirium, my job focuses on providing both preventative and advanced psychopharmacologic treatments for patients experiencing delirium in the ICU. My role is to train the RN staff about delirium and curate personalized treatment plans for each individual, taking into account their specific needs and high acuity medical needs. In addition to my expertise in psychiatric care, I am also passionate about the concept of design thinking. This approach allows me to implement innovative and creative solutions to improve the ICU psychiatry service line at the University of Texas Southwestern. By incorporating design thinking principles, I aim to enhance the overall patient experience, optimize care delivery, and develop new strategies to address the challenges faced in the ICU psychiatric setting.My work involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and other specialists, to ensure comprehensive and integrated care for patients. I strive to stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in the field of intensive care unit delirium, incorporating neuroscience informed practices into my treatment plans.My goal is to continuously improve the quality of care provided to patients in the ICU, aiming for better outcomes and improved mental health during their critical illness. Through my expertise in critical care psychiatry, specialized education in the neuroscience of ICU delirium, and my implementation of design thinking principles, I strive to make a meaningful impact on the field of intensive care unit psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern.
