I lead the integration of advanced air mobility (AAM) into the emergency medical services (EMS) space at this innovative non-profit. Leveraging over 4k hours of flight experience and a career that began as an Army medevac pilot and becoming a technologist, I oversee the deployment of innovative aeromedical solutions, including Akute’s flagship project with Pivotal, which aims to dramatically reduce response times and save lives. The work focuses on operational readiness, regulatory collaboration with the FAA, and fostering partnerships with EMS and fire agencies to bring cutting-edge mobility technology into real-world application.

Introducing ‘Amelia’, the Aviation AI assistant for every pilot. As an active instructor in helicopters and airplanes, it was a natural progression to co-found this project to bring LLM-based AI into the training environment, and eventually the cockpit.

As the Founder and Chairman, and former CEO of KinectAir, I've played a pivotal role in pioneering a digital platform that is reshaping the landscape of private air travel and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). My vision to make the skies accessible to a broader demographic has been the driving force behind our innovative approach, combining software and state-of-the-art AI technology with an unwavering commitment to safety and customer service. For years now, I have had the privilege of serving on NASA's Aeronautics Research and Technology Roundtable, a role I consider one of the highlights of my career. Growing up with a passion for NASA, contributing as an advisor to the Associate Administrator for Aeronautics (the first 'A' in NASA) is an honor. Our roundtable, which convenes several times a year, focuses on the evolving field of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). We delve into cutting-edge topics like electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-powered aircraft, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), and my area of keen interest — the development of software-defined, interconnected mesh networks; essential for the most efficient and optimized operation of these promising technologies.

The Global Unmanned Traffic Management Association (GUTMA) is a nonprofit consortium of industry stakeholders working to publish an open, technocratic blueprint for interoperability in software-defined and networked airspace systems. We provide for the aerial robotics industry what ICANN did for the commercial Internet.

Starburst is an aviation and aerospace incubator that bridges startup innovation to the scale and resources of enterprise companies and venture capital. With offices in LA, SF, Montreal, Paris, and Munich, Starburst is cultivating these connections across the world. It’s a great honor to join as a mentor and enjoy this global view to what’s truly state of the art as Aviation enters the Information Age, and I hope to help its progress through supporting these magnificent teams.

I actively participate in sculpting technical standards and regulatory policy for the rapidly evolving drone industry. As an aviator and a Verizon executive I offer voice to LTE and 5G as aviation-grade technologies available and appropriate as key infrastructure to this era of increasingly automated, connected and networked aircraft deployments. Aviation is entering the Information Age and I’m thrilled to be part of it!

A wonderful year of integrating Skyward to the scale and impact of the nation’s largest telco provider. This was the fastest period of growth since Skyward’s inception, tripling head count to over 60 and expanding the project to introduce industrial-grade LTE to Aviation and Aerospace for the first time in history.

Skyward was a venture-backed software company started in 2012 based in beautiful Portland, Oregon and was acquired by Verizon in February 2017. Businesses of all sizes are deploying fleets of what will soon be a global aerial robotics network accessible to us all. Skyward provides the operations management platform businesses need to run these fleets, distilling the complexity of accessing airspace into the kinds of elegant software tools we all expect these days. We're enabling a new generation of aviation professionals, and it's a great honor to join them as they stand up an entirely new kind of transportation infrastructure. Leading this company was a wonderful culmination of a life spent loving aviation, information technology, and an infatuation with what's possible. Starting this company has so far been the hardest and best thing yet in my career.

I flew medical crew members in a helicopter to the scene of accidents, or from hospital-to-hospital, so that they could do the really hard work of helping our patients. Sponsored by The Center for American Progress, an online forum was launched and thousands of members were recruited. The organization was eventually absorbed by another non-profit called The Truman Project.
