In a nutshell, I am a scientist. In other words, I conduct research by employing analytical skills and thinking outside the box. In my current role as research officer, I focus on applied electromagnetism in the medical field. It’s my job to try and find new ways how to safely avoid decompression sickness (the bends) when deep diving. The project which I am working on is in fact called PerDeMon (Personalized Decompression Monitor). Professionally, I’m motivated by passion, international collaborations and opportunities, and also learning transferrable skills and techniques which are extremely useful in practically any industry. These aspects have motivated me to successfully finish a BSc in Mathematics and Physics and start off a PhD in physics right away. Outside of work, I recharge by playing football, tennis and hitting the gym. Not to mention drawing or painting a piece of art as one of my main hobbies. What I appreciate about my job is being able to pursue both my personal goals and professional passions, and honestly, I think it makes me a better scientist as new and innovative ideas tend to sprout whilst doing something else, especially when you're being creative and painting something new. Physics Advanced Level Paper SetterUniversity Of Malta Sep 2021 - Sep 2023MaltaResponsibilities included setting paper II for MATSEC's Physics Advanced Level for the academic year 2021/22 and setting both paper I and II for the year 2022/23. My role as a paper setter also entailed correcting the scripts. This was done for both sessions (May and September). -
Journal Paper ReviewerInstitute Of Physics Nov 2022 - PresentUnited KingdomI am occasionally invited to review Physics papers for the Institute of Physics (IOP). Summer InternCern Jul 2021 - Sep 2021VirtualWorked within the NIMMS group at CERN on a Particle Therapy Masterclass.Written a detailed report about the content of the Next Ion Medical Machine Study alongside taking care of most of the content of the associated Particle Therapy Masterclass (PTMC). I also organized some of the administrative work and complied a document to enhance future workflows. -
Research InternUniversity Of Malta Mar 2019 - Jun 2021Msida, MaltaI carried out research with the Electromagnetics Research Group during my undergraduate studies. The work involved improving pre existing liquid solutions that mimic the dielectric properties of liver. This involved both experimental work such as making dielectric property measurements at the lab using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) connected to an open ended coaxial probe. This involved both experimental work such as making dielectric property measurements at the lab using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) connected to an open ended coaxial probe. The project also consisted of theoretical work such as constructing mathematical models to predict dielectric properties. Most analytical work was done using Excel, Python and MATLAB. In addition the software associated with the probe (Agilent 85070E) was used to convert S-parameters to complex permittivity. Show less -
Malta Cafe Scientifique InternshipUniversity Of Malta Jan 2021 - Mar 2021MaltaHelped with organizing events related to science communication to increase public engagement on several science topics such as cobots and pandemics.I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr Ing. Emmanuel Francalanza (HoD of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at UM) about cobots and Dr Raquel Medialdea (Epidemiologist at WHO) about pandemics and more specifically Covid-19 and the Coronavirus. -
