I develop new categories of energy efficiency and decarbonization such as in the production of power, hydrogen, and chemicals with CCS or BECCS. After decades of corporate R&D and starting steel and aluminum production units, I founded ZoneFlow Reactor Technologies, LLC. There I created a breakthrough in heat and mass transfer and used it to intensify the hydrogen output and lower the energy consumption of steam methane reforming. I also devised schematics to capture virtually all the carbon in the SMR production of hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, or F-T fuels.As ExcelThermic Enterprises, I now license process IP for decarbonizing the production of power from natural gas, biomass, or coal, a new category of heat exchangers with reduced costs, pressure drop, and thermal stresses, and countercurrent convective combustion heating of fluids with higher available heat and lower NOx than radiant furnace heating. Other IP includes hydrogen combustion engines with greater thermal efficiency and much lower costs than fuel cells, a system to locate pipeline leaks in real-time, and apparatus integrating heat and mass transfer in fractional distillation with little or no reflux.I enjoy developing new business models, collaborating with diverse skill sets and cultures, mentoring, and NOT running companies.
