Olfax Medical develops and commercializes nasally administered therapeutics for central nervous system conditions. Our product pipeline is based on a simple-to-use, handheld device that accurately delivers medication to the upper-posterior nasal cavity without the use of propellants.

TREAT is a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional, collaborative consortium between corporate, educational and non-profit entities that provides education, expert consultation, and direct assistance to accelerate commercialization of rehabilitation and assistive technologies. As Associate Director, I provided operational oversight for the Center while also consulting with clients to help overcome business, technical design, experimental evaluation, and regulatory hurdles.

Simbex is a product development company focused on engineering technologies and medical devices that can change the beliefs of what is feasible in human performance and rehabilitation. Specifically, Simbex develops consumer products in the injury prevention, management, and rehabilitation space that may include any combination of hardware, firmware, and software subsystems. As VP of Research and Development, I oversaw all product development within Simbex - from conceptualization to manufacturing transfer. Through the combined efforts of our close-knit team of engineering, business, and clinical professionals, we successfully commercialized multiple products in both the medical device and consumer marketplace, spanning a broad range of disciplines and applications from falls in the elderly, to gait abnormalities in children, and mild traumatic brain injury in sports. These many achievements led to the acquisition of Simbex by Salona Global Medical Device Corporation.

Beginning in 2004, my work at Simbex focused on creating novel biofeedback technologies – consisting of hardware, software, and sensing subsystems - and supporting their commercialization through development and management of experimental studies, including: pre-clinical protocols, process and product verification, and post-market assessments to verify regulatory compliance and validate product performance. In an ever-evolving role, I was afforded an opportunity to build and apply a wide variety of skills beyond traditional technical development - such as market assessment, project management, grant writing, algorithm development (classification, prediction, and numerical optimization), database design, big data analysis, design for manufacturing, quality management, and customer service and support – in addition to supporting overall business operations.

NEPDC is a non-profit foundation supported by the FDA to promote commercialization of safe and effective technologies for pediatric clinical care. The Consortium grants non dilutive funding and connects innovators with a network of clinical, regulatory, technical, and business experts to accelerate development of products that will help children. As with TREAT, I provided operational oversight for the Consortium and client consulting services, which, in turn, helped fulfill and energize my professional passion - creating technologies to meet the needs of underserved individuals.

Throughout graduate school at Georgia Tech, I taught fundamental engineering concepts, experimental design, and technical writing to junior level mechanical engineering students.

Through the Tennessee Tech Co-op program, I spent 13 months as an engineer in the quality and product design divisions within Denso Manufacturing’s starter and alternator plant in Maryville, TN. During this time, I oversaw implementation of new manufacturing processes for cost savings, performed benchmark and benchtop testing, designed procedures for quality inspections, and implemented a plant-wide lot control system for incoming parts and materials.
