Jonathan Garner is a highly experienced registered horticulturist, specialising in workshops, practical training, mentoring, and consulting for landscape gardening companies, designers, country estates, public gardens and private residences. Realising and addressing industry skills shortages, Jonathan employs his extensive horticultural knowledge and 25 years of small business experience to provide a unique "hands on" approach to improving the skills and performance of staff within landscape enterprises, private gardens and country estates. Workshops, training and mentoring packages are tailored to specific needs, focussing on many areas including but not limited to:- Soil science, preparation and planting practices - Plant establishment, pruning and training techniques - Specialised traditional practices such as espalier, pleaching, hedge laying and cordons - Diagnostics, IPMS and remediations- Development and implementation of systems to improve staff efficiencies. Delivering workshops and training sessions during the working day can reduce the costs of downtime, nourishes team morale and increases the effectiveness of the training. Practically demonstrating a process, while explaining the objectives, the science and the outcomes. Is far more effective than classroom scenarios. Evidence has shown that the overwhelming majority of tradespeople learn more by “watching and doing” rather than “listening and reading”. His enthusiastic and personable approach enables him to explain and demonstrate complex sciences in a task relevant and easy to understand manner. Jonathan has a strong belief in promoting industry best practice, whilst also having a pragmatic understanding that adjustments sometimes need to be made to reflect project budgets and deadlines. His intuitive ability to adapt horticultural elements without the associated risks of cutting corners brings exceptional value to price governed contractors. He has lectured and spoken on behalf of the Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH), The Landscape Association (TLA), Royal Botanic Gardens, National Trust, Garden clubs of Australia and TAFE NSW. In 2010, Jonathan was the youngest member ever to be appointed a fellow of the AIH. He was elected NSW president of the AIH 2003-2008 , member of the RHS and Master Landscapers AssocIation NSWHis recent appointment as horticultural consultant to the 165acre estate, Mayfield Gardens in Oberon NSW and consulting curator at NSW Government are testament to his elite skills, extensive knowledge, experience and practical abilities
