I began my healthcare career in 1984 and trained as a Registered Nurse-a profession I continued until I finished medical school. After being a Junior Medical Officer at St. George Hospital, I began Anaesthesia training at Westmead. Upon completion ( in 2005) , I began as a Staff Specialist and had been a Senior Staff Specialist there for more than 8 years. I concurrently have an interest in management and leadership and have completed an Associate Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators. I was a Senior Medical Advisor , then Medical Director at NSW Ambulance for 10 years ( until 2019). I was fortunate enough to be given an amazing opportunity by Hunter New England Local Heath District and embraced the challenge. The challenges of living apart from my immediate family proved too great , but once again the planets aligned in my favour! I have moved back home and begin an exciting new chapter at Concord as their DMS. I continue to practice clinical anaesthesia.After an incredible year ( nearly!) at Concord I have decided to return to full time clinical work. I’ve worked with a group of inclusive, supportive and talented people and learned a huge amount and gained a range of skills I never expected to obtain. HNE and SLHD have given me amazing opportunities and I look forward to the next chapter- whatever it may bring!Having decided that, at this juncture, I wish to pursue a mix of clinical and non clinical work, a fantastic opportunity presented itself in Bowral so I will be able to have the best of both worlds!After over 12months at Bowral as the DMS I have decided that clinical work is what best aligns with my values. I will really miss the team but am continuing to contribute there- in anaesthesia.I really admire the resilience and forebearance of those who serve the hospital community in medical leadership roles. The job is often under-appreciated and carries significant responsibility-often without the ability to act- I salute you!
