I am a board-certified Dermatologist with a focus to develop access to high-quality Dermatology care to underserved or historically flouted peoples. Here in the Upper Valley, I started and am faculty director for the Dermatology Clinic at Good Neighbor Health Clinic which serves the un- and under-insured in our community. Further, I have piloted teledermatology to provide specialty care access to hospitalized and emergency room patients at rural community hospitals which do not have Dermatology consultants available. I am expanding on my experience in improving global health in the developing world, local capacity building and bringing cutting edge therapeutics to our own community. As Program Director for Emerging Infectious Diseases at US NAMRU-2 in Jakarta, Indonesia, I collaborated with Ministries of Health in Southeast Asia to provide epidemiology and laboratory support for suspected outbreaks such as Anthrax, H5N1 and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever; designed and developed Outbreak Investigation Workshops in Vanuatu, Sri Lanka and Indonesia to develop indigenous expertise to investigate local outbreaks; and designed a syndromic surveillance system and refined detection algorithms to assist local officials to identify suspected infectious outbreaks in communities and assisted the adoption of a similar system in Peru with US NAMRU-6. Other projects included a scabies prevalence study and mitigation education program in Fiji’s indigenous communities. At Dartmouth-Hitchcock, I have been principal investigator of clinical trials bringing advanced dermatologic therapies to patients in the Upper Valley. My objective is to study the patterns of Dermatological disease affecting underserved and understudied communities, characterize the local access challenges they face for access and examine from a global perspective the interventions that have been attempted. The secondary objective is to use that data to design targeted and sustainable Dermatology access programs for these communities.
