The purpose of these lectures was to add to the 2nd and 4th year students knowledge toolbox with fundamental operational improvement principles for them to develop in their sandwich year placements and post-graduate employment to improve operational excellence in their respective industries. This effective lecture programme was achieved by applying proven learning principles like The Threshold Concept and System 1 and System 2 thinking to maximise the impact of delivered content. New product introduction:• Responsible for planning and managing the successful manufacturing launch of the integrated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powertrain and new body style product into the Opel Astra platform, seeing the project through from pre-production to the decision gate to begin regular production. • As the plants CNG project leader it was necessary to not only communicate with the 40 plant stakeholders but on occasion to inspire, motivate and lead change from the shop floor up to the senior leadership group in order to meet production targets and maximising the return on the €13 Million plant investment. • Managed the projects problem resolution process ensuring the associated short and long terms project risks were controlled and managed cross-functional problem solving teams which demanded excellent interpersonal and team management skills. I managed a herd of c.600 Jersey/Friesians from the calving period through to the drying off period on a 200 hectare spring calving dairy farm. I was responsible for the day to day running of the farm and the management of the 4 other staff members, including grassland and forage management and feed budgeting.While I was there, I achieved an in calf figure of 86% to artificial insemination within 6 weeks and a total in calf figure of 92% over a nine week period.
