I was appointed Clinical Lead of the Sexual Behaviours Unit at the St. Lawrence Valley Correctional Institute (SLVCI) in Brockville, Ontario in January 2016 and currently spend two days a week at that facility. The SLVCI is correctional centre with specialised services to meet the needs of provincial offenders with mental health issues. As the Clinical Lead of the Sexual Behaviours Unit, I oversee the therapeutic groups and treat individual residents with index sexual offences to help reduce their risk of reoffence upon release.

Forensic Treatment Unit - Ottawa Site

At the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group Ottawa site, I complete court-ordered risk assessments for sentencing purposes, as well as assessments at the request of defence attorneys, at the Sexual Behaviours Clinic. I have completed approximately two hundred such assessments to date. Among these were approximately thirty dangerous and long-term offender assessments. My duties also include the outpatient psychiatric care of patients referred to the Sexual Behaviours Clinic by probation officers or family doctors, including sexual offenders under Long-Term Supervision Orders.With the appointment of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa, I regularly supervise medical students and residents in psychiatry on their psychiatry clinical rotations. I also teach a small group of medical students to do a full psychiatric interview each year.

Brockville, Ontario

Beginning on July 1, 2007, I spent between one and three days a week at the Forensic Treatment Unit in Brockville where I completed court-ordered assessments of fitness to stand trial and criminal responsibility. I have completed approximately one hundred such assessments at this facility to date. In addition, I manage the psychiatric care of a ward composed of inpatients found not criminally responsible or unfit to stand trial due to mental disorder. This included annual testimony to the Ontario Review Board on each patient regarding their level of risk to the community as well as monthly treatment team conferences on each patient to assess their current level of risk of violence. From August, 2013 to January, 2016, I held the position of Director of the Inpatient Recovery Team. In that role, I oversaw the psychiatric rehabilitation programs for the more chronic patients found unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible to help facilitate their eventual reintegration into the community.
