I provided OCLC's member libraries with support and guidance in regard to OCLC's many products, which facilitate member efforts in such areas as discovery, acquisitions, description, and resource sharing. I also helped to introduce the Wise product, a complete software solution for (particularly public) libraries, to the customer support department.

Plain City, Ohio

I worked in the company's processing department. I produced MARC records for an average of 75 books a month for the company’s thousands of subscribed libraries, and later customized the MARC records further for individual customer needs.I supplemented this primary responsibility with others as required, such as addressing and resolving customer concerns.

I was responsible for the supervision of student employees as they assisted customers, prepared incoming and outgoing cargo, monitored in-house circulation, and maintained an orderly environment in the circulation department. Upon the recruitment of a new student, I also helped train her or him in these tasks. Additionally, I performed more advanced duties.

Performing Arts Library

I improved upon the knowledge I gained at Michigan State University's position. Instead of cataloging Spanish texts, I cataloged sound recordings in various genres and in more than one language, learning the specifics of more MARC fields, which led to more robust records. Technical Services

I performed original and copy cataloging of texts that were either in Spanish or Spanish-related, employing both Sierra and OCLC Connexion. In doing so, I enhanced knowledge of cataloging procedures and standards. I cultivated a deeper understanding of the MARC format, improved my navigation of LCSH and LC Classification, and learned tricks of the trade.

In this position, I was expected to monitor the circulation of books and video/audio equipment. My duties included shelving, taking inventory of the stacks, cleaning equipment, and preparing cargo for inter-library circulation. On the customer service end, I provided information about library policies and services, instructed and assisted patrons in.

During this summer internship, I did fact-checking for this independent writer and editor. Other duties included drafting passages for one of his books, cleaning up his website design, and handling transactions for customers when he held a sale for his personal art pieces.
