As of May 2015, I had been directly involved in the management and cultivation of some 340 acres of Robusta coffee, as well as in all associated infrastructure development (labour line renovation, drip irrigation installation, road improvement works, etc). Roles included:- Risk management via futures hedging for some 200,000 69kg bags of arabica coffee purchased each year directly from farmers;- Responsibility for the quality control and timely delivery of this coffee to the export/dry mill;- Oversight of the company’s sustainability certification initiatives which involved working with over 2,000 farmers to help improve their yields and develop long-term, economically and environmentally sustainable practices.

One year spent undergoing a management trainee course with Beneficios Volcafe, the largest miller and exporter of Costa Rican coffees.

Four month internship with the fundraising department of Anti-Slavery International, a charity focused on stopping modern day forms of slavery through research, labour law lobbying and knowledge dispersion.
