In my time at Pope, I primarily worked on Construction Document level drawings, but had an increasing role in planning and schematic design.

From 2011 to 2017, I served in both the Kansas and Minnesota National Guard as an Engineer (Combat and Horizontal). I gained skills in combat maneuvers, ordinance procedures, and heavy equipment operation.

During my time at Wold, I have worked on jobs as small as 500sf and as large as 150,000sf. From solo projects to large teams, I have had the opportunity to develop skills and gain experiences in a wide variety of areas and scales. I also headed a virtual reality investigation team, along with 4 others. This team researched the market, technology, and office uses of a VR headset (HMD) system and presented a plan for implementing the technology.

Working at a small, local business means playing plenty of roles, sometimes all at once. As an Assistant Manager, I not only managed employees and product, but also worked shifts in both the cafe and the bookstore. As a lab assistant for three PhD student studying lightweight concrete, I was responsible for assisting the primary researchers as well as performing various sampling tests (air content and 'slump' tests). I was introduced to correct research methods as well as best practices for maintaining accurate results and procedures during the testing and recording of our research. I was also responsible for maintaining equipment and a clean laboratory.

My internship focused on reviewing basic residential building plans for approval by the county. This included assuring all aspects of the projects were drawn according to International residential Code and fulfilled the requirements of the County. Types of projects included decks, room additions, sunrooms, and interior finishes.

Over the course of a summer I assisted in the construction of several custom homes in Montrose, CO and the surrounding region. These homes ranged in scale from a 1500 sq. foot ranch to a 14,000 sq. foot, four-level chalet. I took part in all aspects of the building process – pouring foundations, preparing footers, log-frame construction, interior construction, and finishing work.
