I spent 3 years teaching high school 1-on-1, which was an amazing experience. I began with English, but soon also taught history, economics, music, and government. It was more about connecting with the student, and seeing them through some years that might be difficult for them. I largely worked with kids who hadn't found success in traditional schools, for whatever reason, and I took pride in helping them hopefully really learn and take interest in the subjects I taught.I began to feel complacent, however, and thus got my TEFL certification and began teaching in China. I taught English to adults, and really enjoyed tailoring my material to each class. I covered a lot of business English, but also adapted to the overall interests of any given class. I also assisted in managing various school activities and functions.Unfortunately Covid found me between jobs in China, and so after a long layoff I found myself teaching in Mongolia. I like new experiences, and Mongolia was certainly that. I taught primarily high school English, but also adapted to a hybrid classroom, taught 32 Mongolian first graders math, and attempted to teach science.I gained skills in learning how to teach dyslexic students and students with reading comprehension concerns with Lindamood-Bell. Theirs is an excellent program, and I was so happy to see the progress my students made.I then tried teaching in Taiwan briefly, adventure again calling, but I realized I'd like to explore my options back in the USA, first. I tried a sales position with Sunrun, then ultimately realized that selling simply isn't in my character. I gained a ton from the experience, however, and only have good things to say about Sunrun and going solar.I now work as a mail carrier, and absolutely love it. I greatly enjoy the day-to-day puzzle solving I have to do, figuring out the most efficient way of getting everything done accurately, and I’m proud to be a small part of such a storied institution.
