I have a Ph.D. in mathematical optimization (or operations research) along with over two years of experience using data analytics and modern data-driven methods to inform business decisions. I have a strong technical and theoretical background in machine learning and statistics along with extensive knowledge and experience with algorithm design and implementation.The research component of my Ph.D focused on time series analysis and forecasting using statistical modeling and modern optimization techniques. This included the full model development cycle: model creation, implementation, verification, and validation. Often this research had direct applications, I implemented models in Python for data sets in tracking/navigation, economics, and underwater current profiling. In addition to my research I was part of a UW team that collaborated with Boeing on how available data could best be leveraged to increase business performance. I participated in discussions on what projects to undertake by comparing data sets and existing business problems. In total we identified four areas where data analytics could provide immediate monetary benefit. I worked on three of these projects and functioned as project manager on one of them. During this time, I made a weekly presentation of current findings and results and summarized my work in quarterly reports to both the University and Boeing.My time in graduate school has also made me a fantastic problem solver. I pride myself on coming up with creative solutions to existing problems by using my deep understanding of statistics and machine learning algorithms. I love the challenge and puzzle of working with big data sets and extracting useful information from them.I am very comfortable using Python, R, SQL, and Matlab.
