OUR MISSIONThe FNHSSM eHealth/ICT Unit’s mission is to tie together the clusters through eHealth systems and build capacity through the development of the ICT Centre of Excellence. ACCOUNTABILITYWith direction and supervision from the Executive Director, the FNHSSM eHealth unit are responsible for advocating and supporting eHealth activities pertaining to MFN communities. The FNHSSM eHealth Unit provides Secretariat support to eANISKOPITAK.

Clear Sky Connections will be the largest Indigenous-owned telecommunications network in Canada implementing a high-speed internet connectivity project that will deploy thousands of kilometres of fiber optic cable into all Manitoba First Nations (MFNs).With the ever-growing use of the internet, most MFNs lack adequate, affordable and reliable connectivity. As the technology evolves in functionality our communities need to keep up with these advancements. We will address this connectivity gap.Our goal is to have all MFNs and surrounding communities on our network to provide good quality service that is affordable, as soon as possible. Internet connectivity currently available in MFNs is well below the industry standard compared to urban areas. The connections are unreliable and costly. Our network will provide high speed, reliable internet.The challenge in Manitoba when deploying the fiber optic cable to our communities are the various terrains, to overcome this we will use various fiber optic deployment methods.

The First Nations Health and Social Secretariat of Manitoba (FNHSSM), is the legal entity responsible for the Building the Manitoba First Nations Network of the Future (BTMFNNF) project. The main goal of the project is to see all 63 Manitoba First Nations connected with Industrial Grade Fibre Optic Internet access, providing adequate and reliable bandwidth to serve better the First Nation communities and people. The potential benefits of Industrial Grade Internet connectivity to Health, Education, and economy of the First Nation communities is enormous. Other benefits of connectivity will naturally overflow into other sectors in our communities.BTMFNNF is under the authority of the Manitoba First Nations Technology Council (MFNTC). The MFNTC is comprised of seven tribal councils in Manitoba and Independent Nations. This BTMFNNF initiative is led by MFNTC Project Manager and the FNHSSM e-Health Unit as the Core Project Team. Representatives from each Tribal Council for MFNTC provide fair and crucial representation to ensure each Nation and Region is represented. There are three major phases that make up the BTMFNNF:- Phase 0: Information Gathering;- Phase 1A: Feasibility Study;- Phase 1B: Roadmap Development; and,- Phase 2: The Build.Phase 1A: Feasibility Study was just completed, and the project is now in Phase 1B: Roadmap Development. The Roadmap Development will identify and prioritize key components and steps to move the project into Phase 2: The Build. Detailed information about the project is confidential to protect the integrity of the project and is in line with the OCAP Principles. Said information about this project will be made available after the MFNTC has reviewed and approved documents for distribution. Each First Nation community can request the MFNTC Project Manager to make a presentation at an AGM or Band Council Meeting.

The tanned hides and furs that are supplied to us are made the way our Indigenous Ancestors would have made generations ago, and with little modern influence. Our leather is naturally smoked to give a look, feel and smell of authenticity. The fur comes from traditional sources from Metis and First Nation trappers in Central and Northern Manitoba. Our partnership with Manitoba Buckskin allows us to provide unique and authentic leather and fur for our collections.Every piece in our collections is hand-made by Indigenous Artists and Designers. Each piece is designed with you,our friends, in mind and the piece you receive is original and unique. Some of the floral designs on the moccasins and other art pieces have been preserved from earlier bead-work that was done by our grandmothers and have been digitally copied to be embroidered onto vamps, then made into the art pieces that are featured on our site. The use of our embroidery design method dates back to pre-European contact. Before the wide spread use of glass beads, most Indigenous tribes used hand-made embroidery with porcupine quills, bone fragments and other natural materials used as beads on tanned buckskin.

Working on initiatives to eliminate racism and discrimination in the city of Winnipeg. Implementation of a website and ad campaign to create awareness.

Research internet for organizations and companies that have anti-racism initiatives. Search for Web developers to develop a site and compile reports and present findings. Liaison between Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism & Discrimination (CMARD) Committee and Web Developers. Have weekly or monthly meetings to discuss progress on web site content. Gather requirements and best practice business processes. Identify risks and mitigation strategies. Prioritize and organize requirements, identify challenges and assumptions.
