Currently about to begin a career as a field engineer with Norfolk Dredging. AAS Marine Technology - Cape Fear Community CollegeThroughout my time as a student at CFCC, I was exposed to a variety of hands on training working aboard a seagoing vessel. In the field of hydrographic surveying skills learned include calibration, maintenance, and deployment of common oceanographic equipment and navigation devices, use of sampling equipment, and aquisition and post processing of data.On the biological side I gained experience from multiple sampling trips in both the marine and estuarine environment. Field work included deployment and maintenence of various fishing gear, identification of specimen caught, proper recording of both federal and state data sheets, and various labwork dealing with water quality assessment. Cape Fears Marine Technology program was unique in that each student takes 5 oceangoing trips (total of 32 days) and multiple small boat ventures involving hands on learning.
