During my time at Foley, I had the pleasure of:- drafting and prosecuting many different types of applications (e.g., provisional, non-provisional, CON, CIP, DIV, PCT, EP, JP, CN, design, etc.).- developing tailored prosecution strategies that align with client IP portfolios and business goals. - prosecuting patent applications relating to a variety of technology areas, such as building management systems, HVAC, control systems, AI/ML, network communication systems, autonomous vehicle guidance systems, printers, financial institution systems/methods, small engines, outdoor power equipment, agricultural equipment, heavy machinery, EVs, battery control systems, medical devices, plumbing fixtures, and shower systems.- evaluating and responding to (a ton of) Office Actions. I also worked on foreign patent prosecution matters.- performing due diligence, freedom-to-operate, and patentability searches, including preparing written opinions for clients.- completing a large international IP assignment project involving a corporate portfolio of over 1,500 IP assets from over 100 countries. I worked on this project for two years (under close supervision from the partners). I was primarily responsible for managing the assignment agreements and power of attorney documents (hundreds of paper documents). I worked with my assistant and foreign associates to obtain signatures and legalize the country-specific documents per the unique requirements of each country (e.g., wet ink signatures, notarization, establishment of signatory authority, apostille, consular authentication, etc.). I had weekly and monthly deliverables, and I became a notary. Although it was occasionally challenging to juggle this project along with my patent docket, I enjoyed this project and appreciated the opportunity I was given to learn.- providing litigation support (under close supervision from patent attorneys).- attending CLE presentations.
