I was engaged in a temp to hire program through Kelly services, for Industrial Scientific. During this time I learned the rental program and helped transition it from paper tracked system, to the computer/e-mail based system they use today. In this role I contributed in most aspects of the job, from customer service and order creation, to receiving and coordinating orders.

I picked up and transported batteries from out of town sources, dealing with and paying the customers. I also dealt with customers at the shop while in town, accepting payments and installing batteries. I dealt with warranties and product maintenance at the shop as well. I was required to have my transportation of dangerous goods as I personally loaded and unloaded the batteries on the road and in the shop.

I would grade and purchase scrap materials from customers. I designed, set up, and maintained warehouse layout. I loaded and unloaded trucks with material both shipped and received. I Planned layout and weights for outgoing loads. I planned and executed upgrades to facilitate storage of product both in the warehouse and in the yard, and provided minor maintenance to the shop and shop equipment. I worked with the owner to create procedures and layouts for a more efficient operation.

I was responsible for opening and closing the store, as well as scheduling staff. On a day to day basis I was in charge or maintaining store appearance and merchandising standards. Under my supervision my staff was responsible for receiving all product and ensuring it was stocked to the shelves. All sales and signage pricing were our responsibility. We worked in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines, which I was responsible for meeting. I worked during a changeover period when the Totem brand was transitioning to the Rona brand. This lead to increased pressure and responsibility during the transition period. I was part of the team that took our store to its rank as #2 in Canada for that year in records keeping and filing. I cleaned up years of misfiled paperwork and thousands of e-mails allowing the department to consistently maintain a spot as a top contender Canada wide for our filing.

I worked in the warehouse loading and unloading trucks and detail receiving product. We used a variety of equipment from stand up and sitting forklifts, to ride on and manual pallet jacks. I was offered a position as a lead hand shortly before I left to resume a position at Rona.

I started at Phoenix as part of a clean up crew for the new owner, as the selling company CCon departed. I used various equipment from a front end loader and forklift, to a skid steer to help clean up and set up the yard. I was offered a position as the front end manager after the take over was complete. I dealt with customers and purchased product. I loaded and unloaded shipments. I hired and managed a small yard staff. I was also responsible for loading and unloading the scrap cars we purchased, as well as ensuring their processing was completed as per regulations.

As a sales manager at Totem I was in charge of our sales staff and their training. Ensuring they were knowledgeable and dealing with customer issues. I would routinely open and close the store, as well cash outs and safe duties. I would run the store in absence of upper management and was in charge of weekly orders. We were responsible for all store departments as well as the yard. Over the years I dealt with a variety of issues as they arose and enjoyed solving a variety of complex problems.
