I have had the honor of representing my high school’s student body as rally chair, leading rallies with roughly 3,000 in attendance. I led a team of 10 students, who helped me plan, organize, fundraise, network, and coordinate different rallies throughout my senior year of high school.

With my afternoons and evenings busy serving other commitments and maintaining my GPA, I found my best opportunity to earn spending money was in the morning before school. For the past 2 years, I have spent most morning between 4 and 6am opening the local pool, including pulling tarps, unlocking facilities, maintaining chemical balances, cleaning the pool deck and checking members in. Over the past two years, my efforts have been recognized through employee of the month accolades, a performance based bonus and two promotions to Head Lifeguard and Sr. Pool Manager. I have also been selected by Blackhawk Aquatics to run the scholarship fundraising program this summer which will generate roughly $20,000.

I joined Science Alliance in the fall of 2022 at Monte Vista. This after-school program is a year-long journey, between a high school student and a 5th grade buddy. There are six buddy-mentor meetings, interesting lessons and learning opportunities throughout the year. I started out as a mentor of one student, and at the end of my first year I was awarded mentor of the year. I now represent the group as the activities coordinator, and I have had the privilege of working with dozens of students throughout my time with Science Alliance.

As a member of SLAM, I was tasked with mentoring and educating incoming students on the importance of diversity and inclusion. I helped host sit-ins and facilitate group discussions where students were encouraged to share personal experiences and reflect upon moment of racism they had experienced in their lives. Additionally, I partnered with the Black Student Union to develop videos promoting inclusion and equity on campus, as well as visiting other schools within the district to promote the benefits of SLAM and to recruit other schools into the program.

During my sophomore and junior years, I participated in the Next Level Sports program, where I coached 3rd-grade flag football teams. Through this experience, I learned how to effectively manage a team, balance parental expectations with the abilities of the athletes, and ensure that everyone had the opportunity to play and have fun. While I did achieve winning records both seasons, that wasn't the ultimate goal.During my tenure as a coach, I observed children coming together as a team, supporting each other and prioritizing the team's success over individual achievements, which was a significant and thrilling development for 3rd graders. I also witnessed children stepping out of their comfort zones and discovering abilities they didn't know they possessed. Personally, I refined my leadership, communication, and management skills, which have proven invaluable in other endeavors I've undertaken since then.
