Jonathan Lee is Managing Director of Boeing Korea Engineering & Technology Center (BKETC) located in Korea. His job is to establish the new research center comprising of Boeing AvionX, IT Mobility and BR&T with technology focus on Smart Factory, Smart Cabin, Avionics, AI and Autonomy. He relocated to Korea from Huntington Beach for the assignment in July 2018 as an expat. Prior to the current job he was director of Technology Strategy for Korea and SE Asia in Boeing Research & Technology’s Global Technology. His job is to promote, facilitate and coordinate R&D collaboration between Boeing and Korean and Singapore’s universities, research labs, industries, technology consortia, and government. He managed to have the Korean government invest $50M in Boeing specified technology and sourcing development needs in 2017. Jonathan manages strategic relationship with companies like Samsung and LG for Boeing Enterprise.Prior to his current assignment in 2011, Lee was director of Advanced Innovative Capabilities in Boeing Phantom Works. He was responsible for concept and architecture definition for innovative capabilities in new business market. His expertise is in systems engineering and software engineering in defense and security systems including fighter, bomber, ISR platforms, hypersonic aircraft, launch vehicle, satellite, network system, and weapons with various customers like Army, Air Force, Navy, NASA, DHS, FAA, and commercial. Since Lee joined Boeing (Rockwell International then) in 1984 as an avionics engineer in the B-1B program, he held various engineering and management positions in key programs, such as Future Combat Systems, P-8A Poseidon, Delta IV, and etc. Lee was awarded a US patent on the Acoustic Air Surveillance System for Air Traffic Management in 2009. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the UC Berkeley; a MS in Mechanical Engineering from USC; and an Executive MBA from UC Irvine.

Adv Integration Capabilities (Phantom Works)Pursue innovative technology solutions for new business opportunities by integrating systems/subsystems from multiple business units and business partners for best-of-the-industry offering. Lead cross functional virtual team located in multiple sites for missile defense, homeland security and system of systems integration for missions such as C4ISR, Joint Integrated Air-Missile Defense, cyber security, Air Traffic Management, Border Security, Modelling & Simulation.

Led a large Systems Engineering Integrated Product Team at multiple locations for key programs of record like the Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS), Navy's P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft, and Air Force and NASA's Delta-IV Launch Vehicle & SBIRS-Low satellite each of which are multi-$B. Led SW development for a new startup program Connexion-by-Boeing providing satellite internet service for passengers in commercial airplanes.

Led the systems engineering team for the B-1B Bomber Conventional Munitions Upgrade Program (CMUP) in enabling the bomber for smart weapons, such as JDAM and JSSOW, using GPS. Worked with the USAF, weapons and other aircraft manufacturers to upgrade the bomber's weapons systems and other avionics for carriage and deployment of the smart weapons. Developed subsystems for a hypersonic plane called National Aerospace Plane (NASP) which was a joint Air Force and NASA project with conventional air-breathing engine, RAM jet and SCRAM jet for operating up to Mach 25.
