Ndt Research EngineerEclipse Scientific Apr 2016 - Aug 2017Waterloo OntarioDuring my time at Eclipse Scientific (now Acuren Research and Applications Group), I worked primarily on a project which involved the post-processing of Full Matrix Capture to image dis-bonding in fillet welds in wind tower stators. A technique that I developed with the help of my colleagues was capable of automatically detecting and sizing defects in T-welds. I also developed an algorithm capable of adaptively rendering FMC data to image directly through rough weld caps. In addition to these larger projects, I worked on several smaller scale studies including: a feasibility study to determine the effectiveness of using ultrasonic delay lines to scan over rough surface, initial code base for reading, imaging and automatically detecting/sizing defects in phased array ultrasonic scans and the use of FMC for inspecting the maximum depth of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) colonies. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherUniversity Of Toronto Feb 2015 - Feb 2016University Of Toronto / Shawcor Ltd.I worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher, as part of an academic/industrial partnership between the University of Toronto and ShawCor Ltd. The goal of the project is to establish a Nondestructive Evaluation technique that can reliably identify areas of weak adhesion between pipelines and cladding material. So far we have been able to successfully distinguish between weak and strong bonds by interpreting ultrasonic pulse/echo data via a standard machine learning algorithm known as support vector machines. Once implemented, this technique could save field technicians the effort of having to destructively test several bonds during the installation process. -
Phd Student And Research AssistantUniversity Of Toronto Sep 2007 - Apr 2015Toronto, Canada AreaDeveloped pseudo-analytical methods for modelling guided wave propagation and vibration of cylindrical composite media. Co-supervised summer student research projects. Wrote several tools for interfacing with lab equipment. In charge of ordering/maintaining computers for UNDEL.Involved in training new students in MATLAB, Python, ANSYS APDL and COMSOL. In addition to my own research I have been intimately involved in several other projects at UNDEL including: measurement of wave speeds and attenuation in ultrasonic phantoms, development of a correction algorithm for an ultrasonic wedge operating at high temperatures and modelling shear horizontal guided wave interaction with corrosion defects.
