My last two appointments ti ship have been in the capacity as Main Diesel Generator maintainer. Most recently on high voltage diesel electric ship where i also had main transmission line and propulsion. Two Azimuth Thusters Power 12500Kw and shaft power 4400Kw. Coming from two Wartsila W26V12 and two W268L engines. Ship was heading back for drydocking and had various engine problems throughout the 4month appointment. Pulling heads and full units to stop leaks was a weekly occurrence with relative success in that we go one engine completely dry of water leaks. Other problems involved changing high pressure fuel pumps and changing injectors. At the end of the appointment the material state of the equipment under my charge was greatly increased.Main Propulsion Engineer in charge of two 18 cylinder SEMT Pielstick PC2.5V engines, transmission line, two rotary vane steering gear systems and two hydraulically operated watertight engineroom door systems. Also have responsibilities as Emergency Engineering Officer of the Watch and finally Machinery Control Room manager which involves ensuring all support and monitoring systems are maintained and have all consumables available to duty engineers for carrying out there duty periods, I am also responsible for archiving the months daily logs in accordance with regulations. In this position I have found that I am a focal point for more junior engineers should there experience or knowledge leave them requiring advise or assistance in carrying out there tasks.I have during this appointment carried out various maintenance tasks including but not limited to, major exhaust system defect rectification due to exhaust leaks, fitting of lubricating oil steam heaters, routine planned maintenance both hours based and time based on all the equipment under my charge whilst also assisting others within and out with the engineering department.

Dec 2018 - Present

3Rd Engineer

Birkenhead, Merseyside, United Kingdom

Desk Officer working for Technical SuperintendentDuring this post thus far I have been assisting the Technical Superintendent with the build of Work Packages for future Refit Periods writing and auditing Work Specification items for submission to the Ship Repairer for work that has to be carried out. I regularly engage with the departments Design Authority to discuss future developments to continually improve the quality and future supportability of the equipment being run on board.I have carried out numerous ships visits to assess the material state of our ships and capture any work that is required or may help the ships staff to better/ more efficiently carry out their daily duties on board. Also anything that may have been simply overlooked. When ships have been in carrying out maintenance periods I have been on board regularly monitoring the progress of work being carried out and available to ships staff to raise any on going concerns that they may have about the work being carried out.During this post I have also sadly been involved in the preparation work for the disposal of a couple of platforms, liaising with various MOD departments to find out which pieces of equipment have to be removed for redistribution to the current fleet. This also includes meeting with MCA Surveyors to carry out inspections throughout the process ensuring that all legal requirements are met to satisfy him in the safety of the ship and environment for future movements to its final destination. Finally I am also available for technical support for the flotilla assisting where I can from my office with any technical queries from the various MOD departments, which largely include personnel from a non technical background with little or no experience of physically working onboard ships, using my past experience and knowledge of the ships to best assist them in their function.
