  • Spacex
    Dragon Development Engineer Ii
    Spacex Sep 2017 - Mar 2020
    Hawthorne, California, Us
    • Redesigned the in-space thruster cluster engine mounts located on the vehicle exterior and performed structural verification analysis using NASTRAN with FEMAP. This piece of primary structure required close collaboration with the loads and dynamics teams, to derive an intelligent loads set.• With approximately 6 months to spare, I designed, tested, procured and integrated all primary structure environmental seals on the Crew Dragon spacecraft. I jumped on this project in the 11th hour of the capsule development cycle and carried it all the way through to massive flight success, saving the company tens of millions of dollars in refurbishment costs, months of schedule and unlocking a major milestone towards rapid reusability for the Crew Dragon program.• Designed sealing solutions for over 100+ different water and gas leak paths on the Crew Dragon spacecraft.• To overcome the extremely long feedback loop between design and test, I developed innovative solutions to in-house seal design, that enabled me to go from design to testing in less than 24hrs; being able to rapidly iterate through, and optimize designs was key to success on such a compressed timeline.• Managed a team of engineers and technicians to build up a test capsule that was used to put the seals through a rigorous test campaign to verify their performance and the overall design intent.• Designed and developed a non-invasive, comprehensive test approach to rapidly screen the capsule's global sealing state in a matter of hours using optical gas imaging - a technology and process previously foreign to SpaceX. This test serves as the primary screen to confirm seal performance prior to any flight.• In addition to primary capsule sealing, I interfaced with all hardware teams and the materials department to drive programmatic direction for secondary hardware sealing and corrosion protection.
  • Spacex
    Mechanical Design Engineer
    Spacex Jan 2014 - Sep 2017
    Hawthorne, California, Us
    • Served as the responsible mechanical design and integration engineer for the Crew Dragon 2 suite of guidance, navigation and control (GNC) instruments, such as IMUs, star trackers and other optical instruments.• Modeled up designs using NX CAD software, created engineering drawings and maintained configuration management of hardware.• Using Optistruct with HyperWorks, performed topological optimization analysis to refine the design space and inform efficient load paths. This enabled overall hardware optimization and a reduction in structure mass by 30%.• Used NASTRAN with FEMAP to perform structural and dynamic verification analyses of final hardware designs.• Created an end-to-end excel-based fracture analysis tool for SDOF systems, that synthesized MEFF information with spectrul ASDs to calculate random response plots. This information was then auto-fed into NASGRO fracture analysis to automate crack growth analysis. Overall, the tool reduced the total analysis burden for a part from hours down to as little 30min, with more accurate and complete results, less prone to human error.• Drove the mechanical architectural design for the RF communications system that is currently flying on the Crew Dragon 2 capsule. Given the design is an integral part of the capsule's primary structure, this effort required a significant amount of cross-department communication and project management. Successfully demonstrated performance on the Pad Abort test vehicle, which identified areas for improvement and refinement on the flight vehicle.
  • Space Exploration Technologies
    Engineering Intern
Space Exploration Technologies May 2013 - Aug 2013
    Hawthorne, California, Us
    • Designed and analyzed hardware necessary to integrate the majority of flight avionics on the Pad Abort capsule.• Designed hardware to support dynamics and environments characterization testing.• Designed a quick disconnect mechanism.• Designed tooling to support production operations.• Communicated with various departments to satisfy all design requirements, while managing projects in a timely manner.• Supported one-off, day-to-day operations and tests in the lab.
  • Team Tango Aircraft
    Intern Mechanical And Aerospace Engineer
Team Tango Aircraft May 2011 - May 2013
    Williston, Florida, Us
    • Redesigned aircraft seats, including seeing them through manufacturing and into production.• Analyzed components with SolidWorks Finite Element Analysis (landing gear struts and brackets, aileron, flap and wheel pant brackets).• Designed a new standardized 2-part latching mechanism for aircraft doors.• Designed standardized door hinges for aircraft doors.• Ran analyses on a new single piece landing gear, calculating maximum deflection while simulating a 3g landing.• Modeled up three aircraft including airframes and all aircraft components on CAD software.• Assisted in the construction of an airplane, from wiring harness construction, composite layups and avionics installations.
