I am an Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry at Baylor University and Affiliate Faculty of Berkeley Lab (previously an award-winning Berkeley Lab postdoctoral researcher). I have over a decade of experience in battery materials science, advanced material characterization (via optical, electrical, electrochemical, X-ray, electron, and scanning probes), modeling (via partial differential equations, finite element methods, and physics-based math methods), and scientific project planning, implementation, and management.My work has been published in top journals including Nature Communications, Science Advances, and ACS Nano, and has garnered recognition resulting in invitations to communicate my findings at international conferences and notable venues including Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and the U.S. Department of Energy.Formally trained as a physicist and mathematician, I leverage experimental and theoretical expertise to conduct interdisciplinary research on the blurred boundaries of physical chemistry, electrochemistry, and materials engineering, to advance basic energy storage and battery science.Example systems empirically studied include electrochemical interfaces & interphases, Si anodes, polymer electrolytes, and Li-ion transport through model solid-state electrolytes. Example systems studied theoretically include Li diffusion on Si, Li transport through solid-state electrolytes, Li electromigration at and near nanoscale heterojunctions, and infrared nano-optics schemes for non-destructive detection of SEI components.As an avid technical communicator, formal past roles include adjunct professor of physics and middle school science teacher.
