We all know the expression “follow your passion.” While it may be trite, it’s been the resounding anthem throughout my professional journey, which started at a crossroads. As a person who loved to both design and build spaces (and still does), I was told you couldn’t do both. Either you become an architect and let someone else bring your ideas to life – or – pound some nails and go the contractor route. Feeling like I’d be sacrificing too much of myself by choosing one or the other, I decided to start a landscape design & construction business instead and have the best of both worlds.The first step down that road began at the age of 18, when I built a koi pond for my grandparents in Southborough, Massachusetts. From there, I moved to British Columbia for a unique undergraduate opportunity that allowed me to create an individualized major and study water features in one of the most scenic and inspiring parts of North America. During that time, I interned with Vancouver’s top pond and waterfall builder, Streamworks Designs, where I developed a strong foundation for both building beautiful water features and building a successful business.In my final year of college, I petitioned the school to let me build a koi pond on a prominent part of campus, which was completed in 2016 and doubled as my undergraduate thesis project. Upon graduating, I moved back to Boston and officially opened FallingWater Scapes in 2017, which has since become a Master Certified Aquascape Contractor and an award-winning water feature company – taking home best pondless waterfall in the country in 2022 and best small project in 2021. Today, I still answer to that voice in my head that didn’t want to settle. It’s there driving me to become a better designer, leader, marketer, salesman, and visionary for my company. While I’ll always have a deep love for creating beautiful water features, the driving force in my career is to engage my creative energy on a daily basis, which has come to take many forms.
