I transferred to Cal Poly SLO in Fall 2023, having previously attended California State University, Northridge, and Ventura College. My coursework includes a strong focus on mathematics and physics, where I have excelled. Notable completed courses include:Methods of Mathematical ProofsPhysics: Mechanics, Electromagnetism, And Optics.Engineering MaterialsEngineering Design (SOLIDWORKS)Philosophy of DesignGeneral Chemistry I & IIEngineering Circuits, ElectronicsMechanics of MaterialsThermodynamicsFluid Mechanics (My Favorite Class)Intermediate DynamicsWeldingAdvanced ManufacturingIn addition to my academic pursuits, I have a hands-on approach to mechanical engineering. My curiosity and passion for understanding how things work drive me to create, dissect, and repair various mechanical systems. From working on my truck—performing major part replacements and general maintenance—to fixing iPods and iPhones during high school, I have developed a knack for troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of devices, including building and fixing computers.Beyond my engineering interests, I am an avid guitar player, enjoying a variety of styles from classical to metal. I play an LTD EC-1000 and a Stratocaster through a Marshall tube amp, and have been playing for about three years.Staying physically active is another passion of mine. This summer I have been given the privilege as team lead for our project this summer at FATHOMWERX. Our project is quite fun! All teams in the lab are designing a robot to go through a scale model doorway and set of stairs that would be onboard a naval vessel. At the end of the summer we will alll compete to see if we all can complete the course. Our robot has to be able to:1. Open a door2. Climb a set of stairs with a incline approx 65 degrees3. Detect corrosion. Each teams robot has a different specialty. In my previous two years working at NSWC PHD I was helping develop the ACTS corrosion immersion tester. My teams specialty was assigned to corrosion since I have a brief knowledge of methods of testing and identifying corrosion. On top of my team lead position, my mentor and STEM coordinator has given me more responsibility to help lead all the teams. I have been helping with minor logistics, like sending out mass emails of dates, times and other opportunities at NSWC PHD. But I have also been helping the teams with advice, solidworks, tools in the lab, brainstorming, elevator pitches, etc. I’m very proud to have the roll I have now at FATHOMWERX/NSWC PHD
Engineering Intern
Engineer Intern
I had the opportunity to participate in a Internship program through the University of California Santa Barbra and the US Navy. This was my first engineering experience. I was tasked to jump into an existing project that required my team to fix and finish developing an immersion tester. The project we worked on was designed to simulate ocean environments to help study and identify salt water corrosion. The immersion tester had various issues from leaks in the system all the way to needing an update in the general user interface’s python code. At the end of the internship my teams effort allowed us to receive a 1st place award: Design challenge presentation. My main rolls of the project were to learn the entire system and how it operates since it was an existing project, the tester came with a 250 page instruction manual. I spent the first couple weeks trouble shooting finding hardware issues and software bugs. After some time all the issues were found and our team tackled those items.I was able to:-incorporate heating controllers-cooling control on the GUI (GUI: general user interface running on a python code.)-slow the leaks on the system from x gallons per-hour to less than 1 gallon per-day.-start testing the immersion tester with steel samples. Our teams project was not the only thing I was exposed to, I was taught 3D printing with Solidworks, Cura slicing software, and what types of filament are best for x desired projects. I was also shown how to Solder circuit boards and much more. I will be returning to NSWC summer 2022 to work on additional engineering project(s).
