Software Development Consultant
C# Developer
I worked on a research project as part of a team of students to implement a networked, educational virtual reality experience using the Oculus Rift HMD and Razer Hydra motion controller.My initial responsibility was integratin the Razer Hydra into Unity and investigating into an alternative interaction device. I looked into utilizing the PlayStation Move controller, and began modifying a partial wrapper I found that allowed use of the controller without needing Sony's official SDK and a PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, due to the need to write our own calibration routines, the PS Move controller was abandoned.I moved on to implementing some of the network aspects of the project, particularly porting the networking from Unity 4 to Unity 5, writing the player setup scripts, synchronizing data between clients and server, and project specific functionality.
Teaching Assistant
Served as the teaching assistant for the Principles of Operating Systems, Advanced Principles of Operating Systems, and Software Methodology courses.Responsibilities include providing help to students through face-to-face meetings, emails, and forum posts; presenting lectures to introduce student projects; and grading of projects, quizzes, and test.For the Advanced Principles of Operating Systems, I was tasked with devising the projects that students would implement during the semester. The professor wished for the projects to focus on distributed computing, and we settled on using Hadoop. I also wrote the documentation for students to setup networked virtual machines, installing and running Hadoop, and creating Java projects to code their own Hadoop jobs.
Quality Assurance Tester / Pod Leader
My primary duty was to test games currently in development for bugs, reporting new defects when found.When I was assigned to the NBA Live 2013 project, I took on the additional duties as a vice pod leader. The main responsibility was to maintain communications with the testers embedded with the developers via email. I chiefly sent questions to clarify if a particular part of the game was open for debugging or confirming if an observed behavior was as designed or a defect. My other responsibility as a vice pod leader was to step in for the pod leader if he could not come in to work.When I was assigned to the Fuse project, I was chosen as a pod leader. In addition to maintaining communications with the embedded testers, my main responsibility was to assign test plans to the members of my pod and monitor their progress, and provide new tests when they completed their previously assigned work.Titles worked on:- The Sims 3 Store content (PC)- NBA Live 2013 (PS3, Xbox 360) [Cancelled]- Fuse (PS3, Xbox 360)
Quality Assurance Tester
My primary duty was to test games currently in development for bugs, reporting new defects when found.Testing typically followed a pre-generated list of features that needed to be verified that they were working properly. Other testing was ad-hoc testing, where I was directed to a particular area in the title and discover bugs by interacting with that particular area.Titles worked on:- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 (Wii)- Madden NFL 12 (Wii)- NFL Blitz (PS3, Xbox 360)
C++ Developer/Ui Designer/Lead Game Designer
I worked on a team with four other programmers to design and implement a role playing game using C++ and the Ogre 3D graphics engine, with Subversion for revision control.As game designer, I drew inspiration from tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons. Instead of having a multitude of classes for the player character, I decided on having three base classes, each embodying a basic fantasy archetype -- the combat focused warrior, the skillful rogue, and the magic-user. Theses base classes would define the player character's areas of competence, which could then be expanded and modified by player choices as the character develops.As a programmer, I lead the class design process for game objects. My major programming contribution was the implementation of the pause screen menus, particularly the character sheet and inventory screens.As a UI designer, I helped with the design of the in-game interface that displayed the character's current health and mana levels, as well the spells and abilities that could be used via keyboard input. I was the head designed for the pause screen menu system.I designed and implemented the player character and non-player character objects for the game.
